"The work is inspired by the writings of Olga Tokarczuk and attempts to respond to a question about temporal versus eternal truth. The (reconstructed) image is from a fragment of medieval carved stone on Iona which shows the hours of prayer; a devotional and human measurement of time, as opposed to the burnt Finnish birch with silver inserts which is an artist’s abstract representation of deep cosmological time – the silver representing the capacity for ancient trees to hold knowledge of cosmological events over millennia such as solar flares."
